Alright... what happened this past weekend? It was a long, busy one. But it was good.

Friday night wasn't anything special except for the fact that I dyed my hair again - a nice raspberry red. It's not all of my hair though. It's just the underside of the length of my hair - so you can kind of see it a little bit from the front, and you can see the ends of it from the back, and if I'm moving around, it's like my hair is 2 different colors (I'm naturally blonde). I decided that I like it enough to get it done somewhere with the permanent stuff - I used the dye that washes out in a few weeks in case I hated it or messed up.

Saturday was the Chicago Force playoff game vs the Detroit Demolition. Since I am a retired player, I volunteer at all the home games. Even though this was a big game (Detroit is our biggest rival - and last year's League Champs), I was disappointed with the small crowd - we expected a lot more. But, there was a ton of other stuff going on in the city - Taste of Chicago, the Dyke March, the Cubs/Sox game, the Tattoo Expo, and a bunch of neighborhood fests.
I hardly ever get to actually SEE the games that I am working, so all I really know about the first half is that it was scoreless. (I was hoping we'd crush Detroit.) And just before halftime, mother nature decided to let herself be known and it started raining. It wasn't bad though - we just moved the concession tables a little bit closer together so everything was under the tents. It seems mother nature really wanted to get at us though, because the rain came down harder and the wind got so fierce it picked up BOTH concession tents and sent them flying over towards the crowd waiting in line for food. Luckily (and miraculously) nobody was hurt, except for the tents themselves - they are both retired now. We were able to get everything cleared up and back to business very quickly (everyone associted with the team is a pro!) As soon as we got everything into the building though, the rain stopped... of course. Then when we got things back outside, it started again. This happened three times, I believe - the third time also included a little bit of hail - just after the teams got back out of the locker rooms.
At some point in the third quarter, Detroit ran a punt back for a touchdown. Aw, crap! Nobody scored again until there were around 3 minutes left in the game. This time, it was us. With the clock running down, and the fear of us having to host Detroit at Our House for the Championship game, the coach decided to go for the win and try a two-point conversion... SUCCESS!!! We looked at the scoreboard - Force 8, Demolition 7, 2:45 to go. I tell ya, I was more nervous during those few minutes than I was on my wedding day! I think pretty much all of us watched that last part of the game - and when the clock ran out with the score unchanged, I think we all let out one ginormous sigh of relief. I do believe this is the first time in Detroit's history that they got knocked out of the playoffs... aw... *sniffle*
The after-party was alright. We found a new place - Paddy O'Splaines (or something like that). I like it better than T's or Hamburger Mary's because there is more room to hang out. The other places seem too cramped to me. The food was good, there was plenty of Miller Lite (our biggest sponsor) and fun was had by all.
I stayed over at my friend Dani's place since it would be easier to get stuff done in the morning. And no, Henwy, I didn't even shake her hand - we've been friends for too long to mess around with each other. =]

Sunday morning got there too fast... I had to wake up at 7:30am (I don't even do that on work days) so we could go see Dani's dad in the hospital before we went to the parade. [I was glad that I went and got to see him one last time before he died - he was a really nice & funny guy.]
Just as we were about to get onto the expressway to get to the parade, Dani noticed that she forgot her phone so we had to go aaallllll the way back to her place to get it, and we thought we were going to be late. But, it worked out well because we found a parking spot right by the staging area - good timing. Actually, even if we would have been late, it probably would not have been an issue because our float was missing! The entertainment people who were supposed to provide it got lost trying to find the correct spot. (There were around 200 floats in the parade - I can see how they might not have known where to go.) We decorated the float and eventually got under way...
The Parade started out nice and slow - we had good music on the float, and plenty of beads to throw out to people. But not long into it, everything stopped. We weren't sure why. Turns out that a dancer fell off on of the early floats and broke her leg - caused about an hour delay. In that time, a ton of bored people snuck past the barriers and flooded into the street itself. By the time we got moving again, a bunch of us were asked to walk alongside the float just to move the people out of the way, lest they get run over - we were going at a decent pace for a while. I am amazed at how little people care about their safety to try and get beads that cost 40 cents! One woman ran up to the float with an infant in her arms... where is DCFS when you need them? And one guy even tried to rip my personal beads off my neck - "Come on! Give me those! I want them!" What the hell, dude?! Oh, and the generator that was powering the stereo ran out of gas - so we had no music any more. Rawr.
Anyway, it was already a long time on the parade route... and we got to about maybe 4 blocks to the end and it started raining. The rain got harder as we entered the tear-down area. Imagine pulling a ton of decorations and a dozen coolers and stuff off a float in a downpour - not fun. And of course, as soon as we were done and started walking back, it stopped. (But then like Saturday, when we were almost dry, it started again... wet, dry, wet, dry, wet, dry, WET.... icky)
Well, a couple of us tried to figure out what to do afterwards - some of the Pride parties were outdoors, so we didn't want to get rained on again. Trying to find parking at other places was near impossible (we had to get the car out of the previous spot by a certain time). In the end, we decided to go see The Incredible Hulk. Good movie.

I didn't get home until after 11pm on Sunday night, and then was tired as hell on Monday. But it was a very worth-it weekend, all in all. Hooray.

very

In a potential mate, how important is a sense of humor to you? very

What makes your heart flutter and brings a big cheesy smile to your face? My favorite game as a kid was probably SPUD. It involved one person being the caller, and giving up a category. Everyone else (the runners) would pick something from the category and one runner would announce them all to the caller. Then the caller would shout one of the choices, throw a ball into the air, and ran in the direction of the runners, who were also... running. The person whose item was called, goes for the ball and then yells "stop" - at which point, everyone has to stop... duh. Then the new caller rolls or throws the ball at the stopped runners. If anyone gets hit, they get a letter. The first person to get S-P-U-D gets the "torture" that was decided at the beginning of the game - tickling machine, bucket of water dumped on your head.... whatever.

Since most of my friends don't like to go outside and play any more *sigh* I'd have to say my favorite games now are probably Killer Bunnies & the Quest for the Magic Carrot (card game) and Carcassonne (board game).
